Internationally acclaimed Indian flutist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia is one of the greatest living Hindustani classical musicians and a distinguished master of the bansuri - a North Indian bamboo flute. He is known for his outstanding contribution in popularizing Indian classical music all over the world. He has performed alongside Indian luminaries such as Zakir Hussain and Skivkumar Sharma and has won acclaim internationally from Western musicians such as Yehudi Menuhin, John McLaughlin and Jean-Pierre Rampal. Pt. Chaurasia performed at World Music Institute’s very first concert in 1985, the Festival of India. In addition to his performances and compositions, Pt. Chaurasia also plays the role of a dedicated guru and teacher. He teaches music at the Rotterdam Music Conservatory, where he is the Artistic Director of the Indian Music Department.
